Background
The grease in and around the dampers of the heating and ventilation unit dries up, making the temperature damper and distribution knobs difficult to
turn.

On cars with ACC, this could cause the stepper motors to make a "ticking" sound or make one of the motors stop working.

The procedure in this SI will reduce torque by 40% - 60% for the dampers, assuming the control cable between the knob and the damper linkage is not
faulty.

If the cable has become slow, it should be replaced with a cable marked with yellow. Cars equipped with A/C have the correct cable (marked with
yellow) from VIN Y2023040 and CV Y70008161.

This procedure should be followed upon complaint of stiff controls or that the stepper motors tick or are not working.
