Cabin Air Filter: Description and Operation
Fresh-Air Filter
WARNING: When removing the fresh-air filter, fuse 22 in the instrument panel fuse box must be removed. The cooling fins on the fan control
unit are live. Risk of personal injury and short circuit/fire.
The filter is located in the heating and ventilation unit, ahead of the evaporator. The fibres in the filter catch large particles, but to catch even the smallest
particles, the filter is electrostatically charged. This electrostatic charge means that the filter attracts particles, in a similar way that a magnet attracts iron
filings.
In addition to removing all particles that are visible to the eye, the filter removes particles such as pollen, spores and dust.
