General fault diagnosis in electronic systems

Control module 
When the control module is supplied with current, its processor is activated. The processor then reads the instructions that are stored in the control
module's memory.

The control module is programmed to read the inputs and activate the outputs. If the control module is faulty, the diagnostic trouble code "Internal
control module fault" is set.

In order for the system to function, the control module must be supplied with current. When the control module is supplied with current and the
processor activated, this will be noticed in that the diagnostic tool can then make contact with the control module.

Outputs 
The system controls a number of functions with the help of various actuator units, e.g. an injector or a bulb. For the system to be capable of carrying out
its functions, it must be possible to activate the actuator units. Therefore, they must be in contact with the control module and have the correct power
supply or grounding.

Inputs 
For the control module to be capable of controlling its actuator units, the system sensors must supply it with the correct values.

The function of the sensors can be checked with the diagnostic tool.

Introduction 
Regardless of the control module selected in the Tech 2 menu, the Tech 2 will first contact the DICE to check that all control modules connected to a bus
are communicating correctly. A warning is given by the Tech 2 in the event of a fault. The Tech 2 can detect the following faults:

1. No communication with the DICE.
2. No communication with one or more control modules connected to a bus.
3. No communication with the SRS (Airbag) or ABS.

No communication with the DICE. 
If the Tech 2 cannot contact the DICE, neither can it check that the control modules connected to a bus are communicating correctly. The fault is
probably because the DICE is not supplied with current or the diagnostics cable is not connected to the DICE (pin 7 of the data link connector and
pin 28 of the DICE). The following menu will appear on the Tech 2:

If <ENTER> is pressed, the Tech 2 will again try to contact the DICE. If the <EXIT> key is pressed, the Tech 2 will try to contact the selected
control module (the reason for this is that it should be possible to contact the SRS (Airbag) or ABS even if the DICE is not present).
