Daytime Running Lamp: Description and Operation
Daylight Driving Lights
On certain markets, the dipped beam is used for daylight driving lights. (DICE program alternative 2.)
The daylight driving lights (dipped beam) are active when the light switch on the dashboard is in position 0 and the ignition is in ON position (+15 or
+54). Parking lights, rear lights and number plate lighting are also on. The power supply to the dipped beam lamps is controlled by DICE.
+54 voltage is fed via fuse 35 to terminal 6 of the light switch. The voltage is then fed from terminal 10 on the dipswitch to pin 39 of DICE, operating
the dipped beam relay by grounding it via pin 4 on DICE. Voltage is fed through the relay via the filament monitor and on to the dipped beam lamps,
making them go on.
Filament monitor
The filament monitor is located in the engine bay (relay box). It detects any breaks in the circuit to the dipped beam lamps by measuring the current in
the circuit. In the event of an open circuit, the filament monitor pin 9 grounds pin 23 of the SID unit. SID displays the message "Front light failure."
