Receiver Dryer: Description and Operation
Receiver
The receiver is located on the left-hand side of the condenser and is used to filter, store and dehumidify the refrigerant.
The service connection for the high-pressure side is also on the receiver.
A sight glass is visible through the left-hand fresh-air intake in the bumper. It can be difficult to determine the amount of refrigerant.
When you are working on the A/C system it is important to plug all connections which have been opened in order to prevent the receiver from sucking in
moisture from the air. If the A/C system has been open for more than 15 minutes altogether, fit a new receiver. It will then have absorbed so much
moisture that it cannot operate any longer.
The receiver should also be replaced after hose breaks or serious leaks as well as after compressor breakdowns. As long as the system is pressurized,
there is no need for replacement.
