Saab Information Display (SID): Description and Operation
Technical Description

"Engine Off" Time

General

The SID calculates the engine off time using bus information from the Trionic "ENGINE HAS STARTED", unit ON/OFF, and when the ignition (+15
circuit) is turned OFF and then ON again. "ENGINE OFF TIME", in minutes, is used by the SID for the outside temperature function, etc.

The information ENGINE OFF TIME, unit minutes (max. 255 minutes) is sent out on the bus.

Audio Display

Audio Display

On cars fitted with the Saab Audio System, the radio, tape and CD display can be shown on the SID display.
When the radio, cassette player or CD player is turned on, the display automatically appears in the SID display
If a CHECK function becomes active, the audio information disappears from the display and the CHECK function is shown instead, at the same time as
an acoustic signal is heard. Communication between the SID unit and the audio system takes place via the bus.

Brief Description of the SID

The purpose of the SID unit is firstly to provide the driver with information and secondly to control the horn, instrument and display lighting, and
perform calculations for the SID unit trip computer functions. It has its own diagnostic function and diagnostic trouble codes are generated when faults
occur.
The SID unit receives information from its own sensors and switches as well as from other systems. The SID unit sends out certain information on the
bus.
