Receiver Dryer: Description and Operation

Receiver

The receiver is located on the left-hand side of the condenser and is used to filter, store and dehumidify the refrigerant.

When you are working on the A/C system, it is important to plug all connections which have been opened in order to prevent the receiver from drawing
in moisture from the air. If the A/C system has been open for more than 15 minutes altogether, fit a new receiver. It will then have absorbed so much
moisture that it cannot operate any longer.

The receiver must also be replaced following a hose rupture and larger leaks as well as in case of compressor breakdown. As long as there is system
pressure, there is no need for replacement.
