Suspension Strut / Shock Absorber: Description and Operation
Front Suspension
Dampers
Dampers
The damper is of double-acting, gas-filled type and acts as a suspension strut. It has a welded-on spring seat and is bolted to the steering swivel member
by means of two nuts and bolts. The stop for the spring on extension is incorporated in the damper.
The gas pressure in the damper is used to maintain pressure on the damper fluid. This pressure reduces the foaming tendency of the fluid. It also
counteracts formation of air bubbles that can result in noisy operation of the damper.
The piston rod is protected against dirt and moisture by a rubber gaiter to ensure a long service life.
