False diagnostic trouble codes from side airbag

Cars affected
Saab 9-5 M99 up to and including X3006695.

Background
On occasions, the AIR BAG lamp may go on without the presence of a permanent fault in the airbag system. The fault can be insufficient crimping of
cable lugs in the electrical harness. Diagnostic trouble code B2863 or B2868 will then be generated.

In the event of customer complaints that the AIR BAG lamp lights or your technician finds such DTC's in Tech 2, the following procedure must be
carried out on the driver and passenger seats.

Note:

Provided the VIN limits are applicable, the measures described in SI 850-2077 "False diagnostic trouble codes in Airbag system (SRS)" are also to
be carried out.

Procedure

1.

Turn ignition OFF.

2.

Remove the driver's seat as described in WIS; Body; Seats; Front seat. Place the seat on a clean workbench.
