Muffler: Service and Repair
Muffler Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the frame brace. Refer to Frame Brace Replacement (See: Body and Frame/Frame/Service and Repair).
2. Remove the spare tire.
3. Remove the rear axle tie rod. Refer to Rear Axle Tie Rod Replacement (See: Steering and Suspension/Steering/Tie Rod/Service and Repair/Rear
Suspension).
4. Remove the rear axle brace. Refer to Rear Axle Brace Replacement (See: Steering and Suspension/Suspension/Axle Beam/Service and Repair).
5. Remove the shock absorber lower mounting bolts and move aside. Refer to Shock Absorber Replacement (See: Steering and
Suspension/Suspension/Suspension Strut / Shock Absorber/Service and Repair/Rear Suspension/Shock Absorber Replacement).
6. Remove the right rear coil spring, if equipped. Refer to Coil Spring Replacement (See: Steering and Suspension/Suspension/Suspension Spring (
Coil / Leaf )/Service and Repair/Rear Suspension).
7. If equipped with a 4.2L engine, remove the catalytic converter to muffler nuts (1).
