Airbag Component Replacement
After Deployment
Application:
All 900 and 9000 Models Equipped with SRS
Saab has revised the list of airbag system components which must be replaced after a collison that has detonated the airbag. The steering wheel is now
listed with the components which must be inspected for damage after airbag deployment, whereas previously it was specified for mandatory replacement.
The revised text for both the 900 and 9000 Service Manuals is printed below. Correction stickers for the Service Manuals in your dealership will be sent
under separate cover to the attention of the Service Manager.
900 (Revised June 1990)
Repairing vehicles after airbag deployment
The following components must be replaced in cars that have been involved in a collison that has deployed the airbag:
Airbag module (steering wheel pad)
Airbag contact unit
SRS-system ECU
Front sensors
The following items must be inspected for signs of scorching or deformation, and replaced if damage has occurred:
All system wiring
Steering column
Steering column shaft
Steering wheel
Sensor brackets
To ensure that the system will still function properly following damage to the bodywork, all damaged parts, including sensor brackets, must be replaced.
