SUBJECT:

CORRECTING OIL LEAKS AT VALVE COVER SEAL                  ISSUE: 07/85-775 M85 16 VALVE ENGINES

Oil leakage may occur at the three sealing plugs and the distributor mounting beneath the valve cover. Hi-temp silicone seal can be applied at these
points to prevent oil leakage. This procedure was also introduced as a production fix from Engine Serial No. F092707.

If leakage is detected or anytime the valve cover is removed, sparingly apply hi-temp silicone to points 1-4 as shown in the drawing. Remove any
remnants of old silicone seal and thoroughly clean and dry both surfaces and the O-ring.

Apply the silicone in a bead of about 3/8" (4.5 mm) thick.
Warranty Information:

For warranty repairs use Failure Code 21448-05-0-01-05. Labor allowance is Op. No. 21448 (0.3 hour) plus 0.1 hour
straight time. If O-ring leaks, claim replacement (including at 1,000 Mile Service) using Failure Code 21448-05-0-01-01
and 0p. No. 21448 (0.3 hours).
