Thermostatic Air Cleaner: Description and Operation
A thermostatically controlled valve in the air cleaner intake regulates the temperature of the incoming air by selecting between exhaust heated air or
ambient air. On non-turbo engines the thermostat is located in front of throttle housing and actuates the valve by means of cable. At 73°F (23°C) or
below the valve admits only heated air, while at 99°F (37°C), only ambient air is admitted. On turbo engines the thermostat is located in the cold air
intake and operates the valve directly through a rod. At 23°F (-4°C) or below this valve admits only heated air, while at 41°F (4.5°C) only ambient air is
admitted.
