To increase the caster, transfer shims from front upper control arm bracket to rear upper control arm bracket, Fig. 4. To decrease the caster, transfer
shims from back to front.
Swivel-Pin Inclination
DESCRIPTION
The inclination of the swivel pin cannot be adjusted, since the angle is determined by the steering swivel member. If the swivel pin inclination is
incorrect, but camber is satisfactory, a faulty steering swivel member is indicated and replacement is necessary.
Road Wheel Steering Geometry
DESCRIPTION
The steering angles that will allow perfect rolling of the wheels on cornering vary slightly according to the speed at which the vehicle is travelling and
the sharpness of the corner, because of suspension movement and tire deflection.
The steering angles have been determined to suit most normal driving conditions. Because the track arms are slightly inset when the wheels are in the
straight-ahead position, the steering angle of the inner wheel on cornering will be slightly greater than that of the outer wheel. Prior to the steering angles
being checked, ensure to toe setting is correct.
The steering angles are measured using standard graduated turntables together with optical measuring equipment. The turntables should be positioned as
close to the swivel axes of the wheels as possible.
Rotate steering wheel to the left, until the right wheel (outer wheel) shows a deflection of 20°. If steering angle is correct, the inner wheel should show a
deflection of 21° ± 1 - 2°. Repeat measurement with wheels rotated in opposite direction. If measurements are incorrect, one or both track arms are
defective. Do not bend defective track arms to compensate for incorrect measurements, they must be replaced.
