SAFETY RECALL 264, Alternator Cable Position, 1984 Models SERVICE CAMPAIGN 509, Inspection of Electrical Cables And
Wiring, 1984 and 1985 Models

Together with this letter you should receive Service Informations and affected VIN printouts ("status lists") for the two recall and service campaigns
referenced above.

All vehicles affected by Recall 264 are also affected by Service Campaign 509 but the owners of these vehicles will only receive one notice (the safety
message is emphasized but there is a reference to the service campaign as well). The safety recall affects early 1984 models and a few built at the end of
the model year, a total of about 11,600 cars. The service campaign affects all 1984's and 1985's produced until about March, or about 54,000 cars. The
status lists for the service campaign list all affected vehicles, including the ones affected by the recall.

These two campaigns are being conducted together because they both involve underhood electrical wiring and because combining them will save several
thousand owners from needing a second, unscheduled service appointment.

Regarding the service campaign, note that fewer modification steps are required on the 1985 vehicles than on the 1984's. The service campaign work is
to be claimed on a regular warranty claim form in all cases. Only the safety recall work may appear on the preprinted recall claim forms provided with
the notices sent to the owners concerning Recall 264.

The Recall 264 notification to owners is set for May 29. The letter states that dealers will be prepared to begin repairs on June 10. By that date you
should receive a quantity of parts for the service campaign work (none are required for the safety recall). The rest of the owners affected by the service
campaign will be notified about June 12. The text of the notification messages are reproduced in the respective S.I.'s.
