REFERENCE:
RECALL NO. 264, ALTERNATOR CABLE POSITION (M84)
Saab-Scania has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that a defect which may be safety-related exists in early 1984 model year
Saab 900, 900S and Turbo models within the following VIN Serial No. ranges:
E1000001 - E1014607 E2000001 - E2006536
These vehicles will be recalled by Saab-Scania of America, Inc. to reposition the electrical cable between the alternator and the starter so that it cannot
come in contact with the brake fluid pipe attached to the left inner wheelhouse. Damage to the cable insulation at this point could result in a short circuit,
and possibly, a fire.

What Dealers can do in the meantime
During the course of normal maintenance and inspection of affected 1984 900 models check that the heavy white cable from the alternator is not in
contact with the brake pipe on the left inner wheelhouse and/or has not incurred any damage to its outer insulating layer. Specific instructions as to how
to position and secure the cable will be in the forthcoming S.I.
