Various front clutch replacement sets are being introduced into production which necessitate a revised rebuilding procedure for the B-W 37 front
clutches. The front clutch rebuild sets available as spare parts are being furnished with an extra set of steel plates (quantity 3) and the front clutch must
now be assembled in a manner similar to that of the rear clutch.
Refer to the following assembly procedure when replacement front clutch plate sets are furnished with an extra set of steel plates.
ASSEMBLY PROCEDURE
1.
Identifying plate types:
Plate types can be identified by the number of teeth missing from the outer ring. Plates with 3 teeth missing (diagram 1) are .25 mm (.010 in.)
thicker than plates with 2 teeth missing (diagram 2).
Assembly of the front clutch within the following tolerances allows for the best possible engagement during upshifts. Improper assembly may give
harsh engagement.
