Assemble the clutch first with the 3 thin plates included in the kit. Load the assembly with Saab special tool (P/N 87-91-048). Measure with a
vernier caliper or other depth finding tool the distance from the forward face of the clutch housing to the surface of the first clutch disc.
Measure in three places and average the readings.

Measure the distance from the forward face of the clutch drum to the spline ends which serve as a seat for the input shaft friction surface. Subtract
this reading from the dimension taken in Step 2 above. The difference must be 0 - .38 mm (0 - .015").
If the clearance is greater than .38 mm (.015"), substitute one of the thick steel plates for one of the thin ones and keep doing so until the desired
clearance is achieved.
Note that the one drawing shows that the plates are missing. This was done to better show the input shaft flange. The plates must be installed in
order to properly measure their height.

After assembly of the front clutch, insert the front sun wheel shaft, hold it stationary and rotate the input shaft. You must be able to rotate the input
shaft. Failure to do so indicates that insufficient clutch plate clearance was achieved and that you should re-check your measurements.
