Start the engine and check the ATF level.

Verify that there is no leakage from the front and rear oil pans. Check for any indication of leakage from the torque converter seal and side covers.
Repair if necessary.

Warranty Information:

For warranty claims, use the following failure coding/labor operation numbers:

NOTE

If both gaskets are being replaced at the same time, you still need to submit two claims, one on each failure code. However, the total time for both is 1.1
hours. Please use straight time on one claim to make total time equal 1.1.

Front (torque convertor housing) cover gasket leakage: 44043-50-0- 01-01 Labor Op. # 44043 (0.8 hour)

NOTE

Time for labor Op. # 44042 is changed from 1.1 hour. (Pg. 4-25 of 900 Failure Code/Flat Rate Manual). DCS dealers update from labor operation
number tables.

To help eliminate complaints of automatic transmission fluid (ATF) leakage, improved transmission oil pans and gaskets have been introduced into
production as a running change on 1989 900 models. They may also be used as a service fix. The pan and gasket improvements consist of:

Modified front and rear oil pans.

^

Improved gaskets made of a new material containing a thin, sheet-metal lamination for reinforcement.

^

Two-piece reinforcing frames for each pan.

^

Longer screws with integral washers.

The improved pans and gaskets were introduced as a pilot series from transmission numbers 013-6514 to 013-6613. They were introduced into regular
production beginning with transmission numbers 013-6950 and 014-5129.

Kits are available for both the front and rear pans to correct leakage complaints on transmissions before the gearbox serial numbers listed above. Earlier
style oil pans have been superseded by the kits containing the new components.

NOTE

In the cases where the oil pans are being replaced to correct oil leakage, both the front and rear transmission oil pans should be replaced at the same time
to prevent future leakage.

Along with the introduction of these new pans and gaskets, the recommendation for retorquing the pan screws at the 1000-mile service has been dropped.
This also applies for cars that have these pans installed as a service fix. Retorquing of the securing screws should not be done because it can disturb the
"set" of the gasket and result in ATF leakage.
