Hydraulic Assembly: Service and Repair
Kickdown Cable
Removal
1.
Disconnect battery cables, then remove battery.
2.
Remove ABS control unit, then disconnect connectors from battery shelf.
3.
Remove battery cable clamps, then disconnect cables from terminal block.
4.
Lift out relay and fuse box.
5.
Remove battery shelf four retaining bolts, then lift out battery shelf.
6.
Clean area around kickdown cable, then disconnect electrical connector to air mass meter.
7.
Remove transmission dipstick, then the transmission valve body cover.
8.
Move gear selector lever fully to rear (position 1).
9.
Using oil pipe remover No. 87-91-360 or equivalent, remove oil pipe from valve body. Ensure O-rings are removed.
10.
Remove valve body assembly.
11.
Remove clip, then disconnect cable from lever on kickdown wire motor.
12.
Remove nut from cable sheath clamp, then the cable from clamp by first pulling it upwards, then loosening it at bottom.
13.
Lift cable off throttle cam, then disconnect cable from cam.
14.
Disconnect sheathing from transmission housing. Do not lose rubber seal.
Installation
1.
Apply grease to O-ring on cable sheath and fit cable into transmission.
2.
Fasten cable end to throttle cam, then place cable in groove of cam.
3.
Fasten cable into holder by inserting it at bottom, then pressing cable downwards from above.
4.
Install cable into clamp on motor bracket. Do not tighten nut.
5.
Push shift selector slide completely into valve body (selector lever position 1).
6.
Install valve body assembly. Torque screw to 5-6 ft lbs.
7.
Using oil pipe installer No. 87-91-782 or equivalent, mount oil pipe in valve body. Replace O-ring as necessary.
8.
Install valve body cover. Torque cover bolts to 4.4 ft. lbs.
9.
Install dipstick and connect electrical connector on air mass meter.
10.
Set basic position of kickdown cable as follows:
a. Ensure lever is against stop in fully extended position (toward right side of car).
b. Hold this position until completed step D.
c. Pull kickdown cable sheath past kickdown position to full throttle mechanical stop in transmission.
d. Tighten kickdown cable sheath clamp while holding full throttle position.
11.
Mount battery shelf, connect cables to terminal block, then install battery cable clamps.
12.
Install ABS control unit and ABS relay/fuse box.
13.
Install battery and connect cables.
14.
Recalibrate ASR system.
