Timing Chain Tensioner: Service and Repair
Timing Chain Tensioner.
A new cam chain tensioner has been introduced as a service measure against noise complaints. Use the alternative design when replacement of the
standard tensioner does not cure rattles from the camshaft drive mechanism (most noticeable at idle). Cam Chain Tensioner P/N
75-85-086.

NOTE: Do not remove the safety pin (see arrow) before the tensioner has been fitted into the engine.
Installing A New Tensioner:
1. Remove old tensioner from the engine.
2. Thread in the new design tensioner and tighten to
63 Nm (47 ft lb).
3. Remove the safety pin as shown. The tensioning arm is now released.
4. Tighten the small plug nut to
22 Nm (16 ft lb).
NOTE: If a new design tensioner has been removed for any reason a slightly different installation procedure is required.
