PROCEDURE FOR REMOVING AND ISSUE: 03/87-951 REPLACING SUNROOF
APPLICATION: 1986 AND LATER 9000 MODELS WITH GLASS OR STEEL ROOF
If either the glass or steel sunroof needs to be removed for any reason (seal replacement, noise, etc.) or the electric drive motor is disturbed, special tools
are required to properly refit the roof. See the following information and make a note in your Service Manual.
The special tools mentioned here were automatically shipped to your dealership and covered in Service Information 03/87-948
Glass Sunroof
1.
The sunroof should be removed by dismantling as much as necessary as described in the Service Manual (Section 8, p. 830-30).
Perform whatever repairs are required.
2.
Before the glass panel is refitted to the sliding rails or if the motor is being reinstalled you must first insert the two sunroof tools 82-92- 500 as
shown in the drawing. This ensures that the motor will be properly timed and that the sliding rails are parallel.
If the tools cannot be inserted the motor must be removed (if not already) and the sliding rails moved by hand to allow the tools to be inserted
through all three pieces of the sunroof mechanism.
3.
Once the tools have been inserted the motor may now be reinstalled. Make sure that the plastic pinion on the motor is in the closed position (as
shown) and refit the motor into place.
Keep the tools in place while you install the glass panel. Fit and tighten the two screws nearest the front on either side. Remove the two special tools, tilt
the sunroof and fit the screws in the back. Slide the sunroof forward and refit the black plastic frame.
Never make any adjustment to the sunroof unless the two special tools have been fitted.
