Starter Motor: Description and Operation
Internal Circuitry
Description
Instead of a conventional housing with field windings, the Saab 9000 starter motor has a housing with six permanent magnets. This design reduces the
electrical resistance and consequently also the starting resistance.
Operation
When the ignition switch is turned to the Start position, current will flow to terminal 50 and the solenoid will be energized.
When the solenoid is actuated, the circuit to terminal 30 closes and the armature windings are connected directly to the battery via the carbon brushes.
