Operation
The car is equipped with an electronic speedometer, so the mechanical transmission between the gearbox and speedometer by means of a cable is no
longer required.
When ignition switch 20 is set to the drive position, sensor 132 for the speed transmitter will be supplied across fuse 13 (1987) or directly (1988).
Transmitter 112 is located in the gearbox. It supplies electronic speedometer 111, in the combined instrument. This voltage varies with the speed of
the car.
Middle East and Japan
On the ME market, the speedometer is fitted with speed warning buzzer 256 and control unit 356 for the speed warning. A separate cable harness is
therefore connected via three-pole connector 57. Cars for the JP market are also fitted with this cable harness, but not with a buzzer.
Fault-tracing hints
1. Check fuse 13 and check that the supply to it is live (1987).
2. Check that the supply is live to terminal i of the sensor for the speed transmitter.
3. Check the connectors and check transmitter 112 for open-circuit.
