Canister Purge Control Valve: Testing and Inspection
Checking the EVAP Canister Purge Valve
Tool:
- Pressure/vacuum pump 30 14 883
LH 2.4, 2.4.1, 2.4.2
1 Disconnect the hose from the purge valve at the intake manifold. Connect pressure/vacuum pump 30 14 883.
2 Pump up the pressure. The non-return valve for the turbo pressure should seal.
3 Build up negative pressure. The purge valve should be:
Open with ignition switched off Closed with ignition switched on
4 If it is not, check the hose. If it is OK, change the purge valve.
LH 2.2
1 Disconnect both hoses from the purge valve at the intake manifold.
Pump up pressure in both hoses simultaneously. The valve should be airtight.
2 Build up negative pressure in the thick hose. The valve should be airtight.
3 Build up negative pressure in the thin hose. The valve should now be open to vacuum in the intake manifold (through the thick hose).
4 If it is not, inspect the hoses. If they are OK, change the EVAP canister with purge valve.
