Air/Fuel Mixture: Adjustments

    NOTE:  This adjustment should only be made when the temperature sensor, air mass meter, temperature transmitter or ECU has been replaced, or after
extensive engine work such as overhaul, valve work, or timing chain replacement.
  

1.

Disconnect the potentiometer screw plug from the side of the air flow meter.  Disconnect the air mass meter connector.

2.

Set an ohmmeter to the 2K scale and measure the resistance between pins 3 and 6 of the air mass meter.  Adjust the potentiometer screw as
necessary to achieve a reading of 380 Ohms.  Reconnect the air mass meter connector.

Connect a pulse ratio meter to the test point next to the evaporator housing using a suitable adapter, Fig. 94.  Start the engine and run it until the
fan begins to operate.

If the basic setting is correct, the meter will oscillate between the edges of the meter.  The needle will not rapidly oscillate, and it may pause
between the needle sweeps.

5.

If the setting needs adjusting, turn the potentiometer as follows:

a. If the needle stays or spends most of its time at the high end of the scale, turn the screw counter-clockwise until the needle oscillates evenly.
b. If the needle stays or spends most of its time on the low side of the scale, turn the screw clockwise until the needle oscillates evenly.

6.

Reinstall the potentiometer screw plug.
