Wheel Hub: Service and Repair
Drive Axle, Hub & Wheel Bearings Replace

Wheel Bearings & Hub

1.

Loosen center nut and wheel attaching bolts.

2.

Raise and support front of vehicle.

3.

Remove caliper and brake disc from hub assembly.

4.

Remove four hub-to-steering spindle attaching bolts. Install puller (P/N 87-91-287 or equivalent) and legs (P/N 87-91-303 or equivalent), to hub
and remove hub.

5.

Remove hub and backing plate. Wheel bearings are an integral part of the hub assembly. If the wheel bearings are defective, hub assembly
must be replaced.

6.

Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

a. Thoroughly clean the splines of the hub and axle shaft with Lacquer Primer "T" (P/N 02-06-045), or equivalent.
a. Apply a few drops of Loctite 609 to the splines and install the hub, ensuring the slot in the hub faces upward.  Apply Loctite 242 to the

threads of the nut and install the nut.  Torque center nut to 198-210 ft.lbs. 

Driveshafts

1.

Remove dust cap and loosen locking nut.

2.

Raise and support vehicle and remove wheels.

3.

Remove wheelwell liners.

4.

Remove strut-to-steering member attaching bolts. Disconnect brake line from strut.

5.

Remove clamp securing inboard dust boot, then separate the two halves of the joint.

6.

Loosen center nut, then remove driveshaft.

7.

Reverse procedure to install.
