Risk of Corrosion at Pedal Potentiometer Connector

Application:
1992 9000 Turbo

On 1992 9000 Turbos, it is possible for the rubber boot fitting over the connector of the cable that plugs into the pedal potentiometer to allow corrosion
to form on the connector pins. The result is poor contact, resulting in pedal potentiometer-related fault codes being set and the possibility of the car going
into LIMP HOME mode.

To reduce the risk of corrosion, or to address a related fault code complaint, the rubber boot should be removed. At the same time the contact pins should
be checked for signs of corrosion. Also, ensure that the connector can be properly secured to the potentiometer connector.

NOTE

This PSI is identified as a "Service Directive," meaning that affected cars should be corrected before delivery If possible, or at the next service
opportunity, regardless of whether there has been a customer complaint. A "Service Directive" differs slightly from a "Campaign". Owners are not
notified to bring their car in for unscheduled service under this procedure.

Action:

1.

Cut the rubber boot away from the connector of the cable that plugs into the pedal potentiometer. See Figure 1.

2.

Inspect the contact pins for corrosion, and make certain the connector makes a firm connection.

3.

Replace any of the female pins in the connector housing that show any sign of corrosion.
