Evaporator Temperature Sensor / Switch: Description and Operation
Thermostatic Switch/Sensor (Anti-freeze Thermostat)
The anti-freeze thermostat prevents freezing and the build up of ice on the evaporator. A capillary tube is inserted between the evaporator cooling
fins and senses temperature. When temperature drops below about +1.5 °C (35 °F), power to the compressor clutch is interrupted. When
evaporator temperature then increases to about +4.5°C (40°F), the thermostat closes and the compressor is switched on again.
