Fluid Pump: Description and Operation
The fluid pump is located between the torque converter and the gear case and is driven directly by the torque converter.
The pump sucks the fluid through a strainer and delivers it to the system pressure control valve in the control system. Excess fluid is returned to the
pump.
The function of the fluid pump is as follows:
-
To generate system pressure
-
To generate pressure for the torque converter in order to avoid air bubbles
-
To induce a flow through the torque converter so that the heat generated will be carried away
-
To supply fluid under pressure to the hydraulic control system
-
To supply fluid under pressure to the gear-shifting elements
-
To lubricate the transmission with fluid.
