Hydraulic Control Assembly - Antilock Brakes: Service and Repair
With Traction Control

    Before beginning this procedure, depressurize accumulator in the TC/ABS hydraulic unit by repeatedly depressing the brake pedal until a
dramatic increase in resistance is felt (at least 20 times). Failure to perform this step could result in serious injury.

1.

Remove lower dash panel to gain access to top of pedal assembly.

2.

Remove pin retaining clip, then withdraw pin from hydraulic unit pushrod.

3.

Disconnect battery leads, then remove battery.

4.

Remove clips securing positive lead to battery shelf, then the terminal block (with leads) from battery shelf.

5.

Remove connectors at rear of battery shelf, then nuts for the brace.

6.

Position TC/ABS ECU aside.

7.

Remove battery shelf, then release ABS fuse/relay panel. Position panel aside.

8.

Siphon fluid from reservoir, then remove lefthand front wheel and fender liner.

9.

Remove brace between engine subframe and wheel housing.

10.

Cut tie strap and disconnect all electrical leads from hydraulic unit.

11.

Remove mount for battery shelf at hydraulic unit.

12.

Disconnect hose for clutch cylinder, then plug end of hose. Do not spill any brake fluid as this could allow air to get into clutch system.

13.

Disconnect and plug brake lines from valve block, then remove accumulator.

14.

Remove four hydraulic unit mounting nuts, located on bulkhead behind pedal assembly.

15.

Remove hydraulic unit.

16.

Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque hydraulic unit mounting nuts to 19 ft. lbs.
b. Torque accumulator to 28 ft. lbs.
