Carrier Side Gears: Service and Repair

NOTE:  Component identifier numbers used in the following illustrations relate to specific steps in the procedures below.

Disassembly 

1. Remove the final gear wheel.
2. Remove the wheels by turning them.

3. Tap out the locking dowel which locks the differential shaft.
4. Press out the differential actuators with pressing drift tool No. 87 91 220 and sleeve tool No. 78 41 067, or equivalent.
5. Remove the differential actuators and the wear discs.

NOTE:  In certain gearboxes the differential is installed with needle bearings instead of wear discs.

Assembly 

1. Place the wear discs, differential actuators and wheels in the differential housing.
