Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair

1. Remove the gearbox. Refer to Transmission and Drivetrain.
2. Remove the clutch and pressure plate. (manual transmission)
3. Remove the flywheel or alternatively the drive plate.
4. Pry out the gasket. Do not damage the sealing surface.
5. Lubricate the sealing lips.
6. Insert tools 83 94 967 and 83 94 975 and then the seal. Use tools 83 94 967 and 83 94 975, or equivalents to tap the seal into place. Make sure that

the sealing lips are correctly fitted on the crankshaft.

7. Install the flywheel or the drive plate with (10) 74 96 292, or equivalent on the bolts. Tighten to 65 Nm (48 ft. lbs.) + 30°.
8. Install the clutch and the gearbox.  Refer to Transmission and Drivetrain.
