Noise or vibrations from the gear lever during acceleration
Cars affected
Saab 9000 M94- manual gearbox F35
Background:
The selector rod universal joint can in certain positions cause contact between the two metal halves of the joint.
This contact will cause vibration and/or noise that can be felt or heard from the area around or in the gear lever. The source may be close manufacturing
tolerances and/or aggressive driving. The problem can be resolved by following the procedure below.
Noise and vibrations may occur if oil is leaking from the selector shaft seal. Oil will then run along the selector rod and soften the rubber in the selector
rod universal joint. If this is the case, the problem can be resolved by carrying out PSI 12194-0529 (Sec. 4, p. 26) (CA: PSB # 65-72-07) concerning
replacement of the selector shaft seal. In addition, the selector rod universal joint must be replaced, as the rubber in the old one will nave been spoiled.
Procedure
1
Remove the selector rod universal joint.
2
Move aside the selector rod on the gearbox side of the universal joint.
3
Remove approximately one millimetre of goods from the inside edge of the universal joint opening, where the selector rod emerges from the joint
(see illustration above).
4
Refit the selector rod universal joint.
