The pressure accumulator, which is screwed to the pump housing, is divided into two spaces by a rubber diaphragm.
One of the chambers is sealed and filled with nitrogen at a basic pressure of 80 bar (11160 psi) at 20 0 C (680F). The minimum permissible pressure is
40 bar (580 psi). If the pressure drops below this the pressure accumulator must be changed.
Brake fluid is pumped to the other chamber from the high-pressure pump via the non-return valve. This compresses the nitrogen and the space containing
brake fluid grows larger. This increase in volume makes it possible to store large amounts of brake fluid under high pressure for immediate use.
