Parking Pawl: Service and Repair

NOTE:  Component identifier numbers used in the following illustrations relate to specific steps in the procedures below.

Removal

Preparatory Work (remove the following):

-

Left-hand fender liner.

-

Intermediate gear cover.

-

Pinion shaft drive.

1. Start by removing the valve body cover and then the valve body.

Press the pawl spring (carefully and not too far) to one side and lift off the complete gear selector mechanism from the cylindrical pin.

2. Remove the selector lever from the selector shaft.

Wrench size = 13 mm.

3. The pawl spring can be removed when both screws have been taken out.

Note the guide pin.

-

Wrench size = TORX TX 27.

4. Remove the dowel from the pawl cam using a suitable drift.

-

Lift the cowl using a magnet.

5. Unscrew the plug on the rear of the transmission enabling the support shaft to be withdrawn towards the rear.

Wrench size = 6 mm.
