Thermostat: Service and Repair

REMOVAL 

1. Loosen the expansion tank pressure cap and raise the car.
2. Remove the center air deflector, place a drip tray under the radiator and open the radiator drain plug.
3. Lower the car, remove the intake manifold and plug the intake ports. Refer to Engine.
4. Detach the center intake manifold and move it slightly.

NOTE:  There is quite a lot of coolant left in the engine. Always have a drip tray under the engine when working on the cooling system.

5. Remove the upper coolant hose from the engine.
6. Lift up the dipstick.
7. Remove the bolts securing the coolant pipe and the lifting eye and carefully pull out the pipe.
8. Remove the thermostat housing lid complete with thermostat.
