Intake Air Temperature Sensor: Description and Operation
The intake air temperature sensor is located in the mass air flow sensor's inlet pipe and is of NTC type.
The control module measures the air temperature in the intake manifold by supplying the sensor with 5 V from pin 16 via an integral 1 kohm resistor.
The sensor is grounded via pin 71 of the control module.
The voltage across the control module's integral resistor is proportional to the temperature of the intake air.
The value is used as an indication of whether or not hot starting conditions prevail and also to control A/C compensation and correct the ignition timing.
Should the sensor tail to work or in the event of a break in the circuit (no continuity), the control module will use a default temperature of 40°C (104°F).
