2. Press on the sealing ring to the marking.

Use support tube.

3. Press the bearing on to the shaft with press tube tool No. 78 41 067, or equivalent.
4. Press the shaft with its bearing into the housing with installing sleeve tool No. 87 92 202, or equivalent, press pipe and support with press driver

pipe.

5. Install the two lock rings.
6. Lubricate and carefully install a new O-ring.
7. Carefully tap in the universal joint drive shaft.
8. Install the four securing screws and tighten.

Tightening torques: 20-28 Nm (15-21 ft. lbs.) 

Replacement

NOTE:  Component identifier numbers used in the following illustrations relate to specific steps in the procedures below.

Removal

1. Place a fender protector on the righthand front fender.
2. Remove the battery's negative cable.
3. Lift the car and remove front right wheel.
4. Remove the clamp to the rubber gaiter over the universal joint.
5. Remove the three screws in the wishbone and remove the wishbone from the ball joint.
6. Pull out the drive shaft and let the arm hang down.

Install protective covers on the tripod and universal joint driver.

7. Remove the three screws to the rear engine mounting.
