Take a resistance reading across the shield connection on the antenna connector and grounding point G3 below the left-hand rear light cluster.

If the reading obtained is less than 10 ohms the ground connection is OK. Remove the paper and continue with point B.
6.
If the reading is greater than 10 ohms, undo the nut on the base of the antenna and adjust the star washer so that it makes good contact with the
body metal.
7.
Check the resistance across the shield connection on the antenna connector and grounding point G3 below the left-hand rear light cluster again.
8.
If the resistance reading obtained is less than 10 ohms after adjusting the washer, remove the paper and continue with point B.
9.
If it is greater than 10 ohms there may be an open circuit in the antenna. Change the antenna and continue with point C.
B. Play In the Antenna Rod
Play or bad contact may occur between the various sections of the antenna rod. This can be checked as follows:
1.
Switch on the radio and let the antenna extend to its fullest height.
2.
Take a resistance reading across the top of the aerial rod and the center pin of the antenna connector.
3.
If the reading obtained is more than 30 ohms the antenna rod should be changed.
4.
Connect the antenna cable.
5.
Tighten the nut on the base of the antenna (unless already done) and the two lower bolts/nuts.
6.
If the antenna rod is dirty, it can be wiped clean with a cloth (do not lubricate it with wax or oil).
7.
Continue as described in point C.
C. Antenna Connection to Radio
If also the FM reception is very poor, there may be a break in the center conductor of the antenna cable where it connects to the radio. Even intermittent
poor reception, e.g. on rough road surfaces or bumps, may be an indication of this fault.
1.
Remove the radio from the dash but do not disconnect it.
2.
Turn on the radio and try to tune it to a station with bad reception.
3.
Try temporarily connecting a loose and fault-free antenna cable between the radio and the antenna. If the reception is noticeably improved, change
the antenna cable.
4.
Make sure the antenna cable is not looped around the bracket for the impact cable on the steering wheel member and that the antenna
cable/connector is not jammed up against the heating and ventilation unit.
5.
Refit the luggage compartment trim.
In certain cases, it may be better to change the positions of the radio and the ashtray to make more room for the antenna cable behind the radio.
