When the brake pedal is depressed d the differential piston (6) will move forwards together with the compound lever (3). The two lower balls
move towards each other while the two upper ones move away from each other. This movement causes the control valve (4) to open the inlet
passage (2) from the pressure accumulator at the same time as it closes the return passage (1).

Pressure builds up in the master cylinder and this pressure moves the servo piston (5) forwards, reinforcing the effort applied to the brake pedal by
the driver.
