Expansion Valve: Service and Repair

The expansion valve is a block type valve. The compressor vacuum hose is located in a pressure plate together with the pipe from the desiccant
container The pressure plate is connected with three screws to the expansion valve. The sensitive body is built into the expansion valve, which
gives a more exact sensing of refrigerant temperature.

The new expansion valve is available in two versions, one for the R134a system and one for the R12 system. In order to eliminate the risk of these
being confused, the two valves each have different guide pins. The guide pin should be aligned with a hole in the pressure plate in the connection
to the A/C pipe. Seen from in front of the car, the guide pin is located on the left-hand side on the expansion valve in the R134a system, and on the
right-hand side in the R12 system.
