Steering Gear: Technician Safety Information

During all work when the coil spring is in place and the steering column shaft is disconnected from the steering gear, the steering wheel must be
locked to avoid altering the basic setting of the coil spring.

WARNING:  IF THE BASIC SETTING OF THE COIL SPRING IS ALTERED, THERE IS A CONSIDERABLE RISK OF THE
HELICAL CONDUCTOR IN THE COIL SPRING BEING DESTROYED WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED FULL
LOCK. THE AIRBAG COULD THEN FAIL TO FUNCTION WITH A RISK OF SERIOUS INJURY IN THE EVENT OF AN
ACCIDENT. 

The car is fitted with a number of warning and information labels which state that the car is equipped with an airbag system. For your own safety,
follow these instructions.
1. The letters SRS (Supplementary Restraint System) are embossed on the steering wheel.
2. There is a label on the coil spring.
3. There is a warning label on the driver side of the facia.
4. There is a warning label on the passenger side of the facia (valid for cars with passenger airbags).
5. Warning labels are fitted to the rear side of the steering wheel airbag.
6. A warning label is fitted to the rear side of the passenger airbag.
7. Cars with passenger airbags have the letters "SRS" embossed on the airbag cover.
8. A "SRS" label sits in the lower lefthand corner of the windscreen. In the event of accident the label informs rescue services that the car is equipped

with airbags.

9. A warning label is located on the aluminium tube of the seat belt tensioner.

10. A warning label is located on the instrument panel between the air damper and the glove compartment.
