Suspension Strut / Shock Absorber: Removal and Replacement

1.
Raise and support vehicle.
2.
Remove brake line from strut.
3.
Remove bolts attaching strut to spindle, Fig. 5.
4.
Remove three bolts attaching top of strut, then remove strut assembly from vehicle.
5.
Compress spring.
6.
Remove top nut, then the upper fixture and spring cup.
7.
Remove spring and lower spring cup.
8.
Remove compression stop and boot.
9.
Remove strut damper assembly. The damper is an integral part of the strut, not an insert, and therefore cannot be replaced separately.
10.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Distance between boot and lower spring cup should be approximately .5 inch (12mm).
b. Rotate boot until mark at bottom of boot is aligned with kingpin mounting and groove in spring cap.
c. Install top spring cup with notch aligned with mark on boot. Ensure marks are aligned with kingpin mounting.
d. Torque three top nuts to specifications.
e. Torque top nut securing spring to specifications.
f.
Torque bolts securing strut to spindle to specifications.
