9000 Models with ZF Automatic Transmission

When replacing a 9000 automatic transmission is replaced, the ATF in the cooling circuit must be filtered to avoid possible contamination of the new
transmission. A filtering kit, P/N 87 91 824, was designed specifically for this purpose and uses a standard Saab long-life engine oil filter. When
installed, the filtering kit will reverse the flow of ATF (see Figures 1 and 2) through both of the coolers and thermostat, where equipped. The ATF will
then pass through the filter before being returned to the transmission.
CAUTION
If a car is found to have coolant mixed with the transmission fluid, all transmission cooling circuit components must be removed and flushed with
