Inner Universal Joint Drive (Output Shaft), Left Hand Side

Component identifier numbers used in the following illustrations relate to specific steps in the procedures below.

When you remove the inner universal joint drive in a car, first remove the drive shaft.
Removal
1. Remove the five securing screws.
2. Using a drift, tap on the seal holder from the inside and take out the universal joint drive.
NOTE:

Use puller attachment and slide hammer tools No. 87 90 354 and 83 90 270, or equivalent, to tap out the universal joint drive.

Put the plunge, spring and shims, which could fall out during the dismantling, in a safe place.
3. Remove the plunge and spring from the shaft end.
4. Remove the lock ring.
5. Place the universal joint drive in a press with press plates tools No. 87 91 402 (two halves), or equivalent.
6. Press out the universal joint drive from the bearing race with press drift tool No. 78 41 067, or equivalent.
7. Remove the bearing using press drift tool No. 78 41 075, or equivalent.
8. Press out the sealing ring with driver tool No. 87 91 311, or equivalent.
9. Remove the O-ring.
