Shifter M/T: Adjustments

NOTE:  Component identifier numbers used in the following illustrations relate to specific steps in the procedures below.

Checking Gear Position

1. Put into fourth gear.
2. Remove the plastic plug on the gearbox and install locking dowel tool No. 87 92 335, or equivalent so that fourth gear is locked in the gearbox.

The locking dowel's ring should be at the top.

3. Remove the gaiter and the mounting frame by the gear lever and check that locking dowel can be entered into the hole in the gear lever housing.

The locking dowel's ring should be at the top.

-

If it is not possible to install the locking dowel, adjust the gear position.

Remove the locking dowels if no adjustment is to be carried out.

-

Install a new plastic plug in the gearbox.

Adjusting Gear Position

4. Check the gear position as described in points 1-3.
5. Check from above the mechanical joint which holds the selector shaft in the selector shaft's universal joint on the gearbox.
6. Check that the gear lever is in fourth gear.
7. Position locking dowel in the gear lever housing.

The locking dowel's ring should be at the top.

8. Tighten from above the nut on the mechanical joint which holds the selector shaft in the selector shaft's universal joint on the gearbox.

Tightening torque: 30-35 Nm (22-25.7 ft. lbs.)

9. Remove the locking dowel from the gearbox and install a new plastic plug.

10. Remove the locking dowel from the gear [ever housing and install the mounting frame and the gaiter.
11. Make some gear changes to check the functioning.
