900 S Hatchback L4-2290cc 2.3L DOHC EFI (1997)
Disassembly
NOTE: Dismantling includes entire gear lever housing with gear rod.
1. Disconnect the battery's negative cable.
2. In order to reach the gear lever housing and the gear rod, the left front seat, the side covers of the middle console and the middle console must be
removed, refer to Body and Frame.
3. Remove the air duct.
4. Engage 4th gear.
5. Remove the plastic plug on the gearbox and insert locking pin tool No. 87 92 335, or equivalent, with the ring uppermost.
6. Remove from above the clamp which holds the gear rod in the linkage on the gearbox.
7. Engage 3rd gear so that the gear rod and the linkage part company.
8. Remove the screws which hold the gear lever housing, lift up and turn the housing.
9. Remove the two clamps which hold the ignition lock's cables in the gear lever housing.
10. Disconnect the terminal on the ignition lock.
11. Pull backwards and lift out the gear lever housing with gear rod.
