Seat Rail Assembly
During routine follow-up testing. where Saab applies a cyclical load fore and aft to the seat back and then tests the seat in certain crash tests Saab found
an unauthorized change by the component supplier to welds in the lower seat frame which will after some time and use, cause fatigue cracks to develop.
These faulty welds are in the forward attachment points for the manual seat height adjustment mechanism found on the drivers seat. This problem is not
found in the passenger seat, nor does it apply to power-assisted seats.
Until this defect can be corrected, please follow these precautions:

Avoid pushing or pulling on the seat back with more pressure than from normal driving.

Should you have any concerns, contact your nearest Saab dealer or the Saab Customer Assistance Center 1-800-955-9007).
II. What are the safety risks?
The development of fatigue cracks in the seat height mechanism attachment points could cause the attachments to break free if your car is hit from the
rear. The seat assembly may suddenly rotate backwards, resulting in the risk of injury.
III. What is Saab going to do?
Saab Cars USA, Inc. has made arrangements with its authorized Saab dealers to remedy this defect without charge to you, beginning on September 15,
1994. We urge you to make an appointment with your Saab-dealer as soon thereafter as conveniently possible. Please bring this letter with you on the
day of your appointment.
The dealer will replace the original front driver's seat frame rail assemblies with new ones which are manufactured with the proper welding. While this
procedure takes about 30 minutes to complete, the dealership may need to keep your car longer because of the flow of work in and out of their service
department.
IV. What if you have a problem getting this recall performed?
Saab's Customer assistance Center is available to assist you in resolving any such problem and may be contacted toll-free at 1-800-955-9007. You may
also submit a complaint to the administrator, NHTSA. 400 Seventh St. SW, (Washington, DC area residents may call 366-0123), if you believe that Saab
Cars USA, Inc. or any authorized Saab dealer has failed or is unable to remedy this defect within a reasonable time, which is not longer than 60 days
after you firest bring your car to your dealer after September 15, 1994.
