Electronic Brake Control Module: Service Precautions

All electronic control modules are more or less sensitive to electrostatic discharge (ESD = Electro Static Discharge) and can, if treated incorrectly, be
damaged so seriously that they are put out of operation. An operational disorder does not necessarily become immediately visible, but a damaged
electronic control module can degenerate with time and the problem become evident at a later stage. Therefore it is important that the following rules are
adhered to in all contexts when the electronic control module must for any reason be removed or changed.

Avoid unfastening or removing the electronic control module unless absolutely necessary.

Never touch the connector pins and never place the electronic control module in a position that the connector pins come into contact with foreign
objects.

Before a new electronic control module is unpacked, ground the wrapping against the chassis of the car. Unpack the electronic control module in
as short a time possible before installation.

When you work with the electronic control module it is important that you yourself have the same ground potential as your surroundings. This is
especially important if you have traveled in a car, changed location or moved around the car, and also especially important under climatic
conditions with very dry air (i.e. in winter time in cold climates).

Avoid clothing manufactured of synthetic materials.

Avoid foot wear with insulated rubber soles.

Always handle an electronic control module with suspected faults with the same caution as a fault free electronic control module. This
considerably increases the possibility of localizing the source of the problem.
